AHFH breaks ground on nation’s first USGBC smart growth community for Military Families

AHFH is one of an elite group of residential communities chosen to participate in the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED® for Neighborhood Development pilot program.  With a groundbreaking that kicked-off construction of the Simpson Wisser neighborhood on June 17, the U.S. Army and development partner Actus Lend Lease are taking the lead in establishing and testing the first national standard for development of neighborhoods integrating smart growth, new urbanism and green building principles.

AHFH neighborhoods taking shape

Just three years into a 10-year new home construction plan and already the Army Hawaii Family Housing (AHFH) community is taking significant shape.  “Building more than 5,000 new homes and renovating 2,500 homes over a 10-year period is a very ambitious plan,” said AHFH Project Director Claire Ridding-Johnston.  “But, the partnership between Actus Lend Lease and the Army makes this type of aggressive development possible.”
