Actus took responsibility for business operations and management of AHFH in October 2004, and construction of homes began in July 2005.

Just three years into a 10-year new home construction plan and already the Army Hawaii Family Housing (AHFH) community is taking significant shape.  “Building more than 5,000 new homes and renovating 2,500 homes over a 10-year period is a very ambitious plan,” said AHFH Project Director Claire Ridding-Johnston.  “But, the partnership between Actus Lend Lease and the Army makes this type of aggressive development possible.”

At Schofield, the Kalakaua Community was completed earlier this year and last month the Porter community welcomed delivery of the last of its new homes.  More than 1,000 Families are residing in these new communities, and construction at Schofield continues in the Kaena and Moyer neighborhoods.

Aliamanu’s Ama neighborhood consisting of 212 new homes is expected to be completed this month and construction at the Bougainville and Plumeria neighborhoods is underway; more than 650 Families will reside in these three neighborhoods upon completion.  Early fall will see the demolition of Aliamanu’s Makai View and Skyview neighborhoods.

Building of 103 homes at Ft. Shafter’s Radar Hill has started and groundbreaking of the Simpson Wisser neighborhood will take place on June 17, which will offer 77 new homes to the installation.

“Another exciting milestone we look forward to is the first new homes for Coast Guard Families located at Red Hill, which will take place in late summer,” said Ridding-Johnston.  “These homes have the same energy-efficient design and technologies found on all our homes, including photovoltaic and solar systems.  Other planned amenities that will add to our Families’ community experience include a basketball court, new tot lot and renovated community center.”

On June 17, AHFH broke ground on the nation's first U.S. Green Building Council's LEED for Neighborhood Development Pilot project for Military Families at the Simpson-Wisser Neighborhood located at Ft. Shafter.  The Army and its development partner Actus Lend Lease are taking the lead in establishing and testing the first national standard for design and developments of neighborhoods integrating smart growth, new urbanism and green building principles.

Residents at Ft. Shafter also will get a new community center - the only AHFH facility with a swimming pool, in summer 2008.

AHFH expects to have nearly 2,000 new homes completed by year’s end
